Nathaniel Jefferson, a bookkeeper, land-contract specialist, and small-business lender, and Lillian Brooks Jefferson, a teacher and early land investor, created the original institution to finance Black homeownership, land purchases, agriculture, construction, and small businesses in Cedar Bay. Their son Walter Jefferson expanded the institution into commercial lending after World War II, and in 1958 the growing bank adopted the Jefferson Family Bank name. Later generations added private banking, corporate lending, commercial real estate finance, startup lending, trust services, and institutional banking. The Jefferson family retains voting control through Jefferson Bancorp. The next adult generation remains intentionally undefined for future story development.
Jefferson Family Bank is the largest and most respected Black-owned banking institution in the universe. Founded in Cedar Bay and expanded nationally, it serves everyday personal banking, commercial lending, small business financing, early-stage startup capital, and private wealth management for high-net-worth clients. Every city has at least one main branch and a private banking suite for legacy and high-net-worth clients.
Jefferson is not a niche institution. It is where working families have checking accounts and where legacy families hold generational trusts. That range — from a Riverside Commons resident's savings account to a Harborcrest estate trust — is the point.
